Clinical Massage Therapy in Boulder, Colorado

Boulder is a town of people who use their bodies hard and sit at desks between the using. The same person who climbs in Eldorado on Saturday spends Monday through Friday with their head three inches forward over a laptop. That combination — high athletic load stacked on top of long static postures — brings a familiar set of soft-tissue complaints through the door.

Boulder Pain Relief Massage works out of CrossFit Sanitas on Arapahoe Ave, and that is much of who walks in.

What brings people in

The pattern repeats: a runner whose IT band started bothering them after increasing mileage. A software engineer whose neck has ached for two years and who assumed that was just normal now. A climber with a shoulder that catches overhead. Someone recovering from surgery, cleared by their physician, working to restore range of motion. A cyclist with hip flexor tension that no amount of stretching seems to loosen.

These are common patterns. Each has an anatomy behind it that can be assessed through movement and palpation, and worked with directly.

How sessions work here

Every session starts with a brief intake: how long the complaint has been present, what your week actually looks like, whether it is one-sided, what makes it feel better or worse. That conversation shapes the session. It is not a formality.

The work then focuses on the soft tissue that may be contributing, which is frequently not where you feel it. Neck tension is often associated with thoracic posture. Knee complaints are often associated with hip mechanics. Wrist tension often involves the forearm. Working only the sore spot is often not enough on its own.

Many clients notice a difference in how they move and feel after a single session, though responses vary from person to person. Long-standing patterns generally take more than one visit, because the pattern took time to build.

Massage therapy is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment. If something warrants a physician's assessment, I will say so and refer out.
